Today’s Word
Genesis 1:4
““And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.””
Short Teaching
Genesis 1:4 reveals something very powerful about God’s nature and His work in our lives. After God spoke light into existence in the previous verse, the Bible says He saw that the light was good. This shows us that everything God produces carries His goodness. God does not create anything faulty, empty, or useless. When God brings light into a situation, it comes with purpose, clarity, and beauty.
But the verse goes further — God divided the light from the darkness. This is very important. God did not allow light and darkness to mix. He intentionally separated them. This teaches us that God is a God of distinction. Light represents truth, righteousness, clarity, and life, while darkness represents confusion, sin, ignorance, and everything contrary to God’s nature.
In our lives, God still works this same way. When His light enters a person’s life, there must be a separation. Old habits, wrong patterns, and spiritual darkness cannot continue to coexist with God’s light. Sometimes, we want God’s blessings, but we are not ready for the separation that comes with His light. But this verse reminds us that true transformation requires separation.
God is not only interested in bringing light to you; He is also committed to removing darkness from around you. That may mean changing your environment, your relationships, your mindset, or your priorities. What feels like discomfort or loss at times may actually be God creating a necessary separation for your growth.
Another key truth here is that God evaluates what He does. The Bible says He “saw” the light. This means God is intentional and attentive. In the same way, God is mindful of your life. He sees what He is doing in you, even when you do not yet understand it.
So if you are in a season where God is separating you from certain things, do not resist it. It is not punishment — it is alignment. God is positioning you to live in His light fully.
When God’s light comes, darkness must go. And when God separates you, it is always for something better.
